When you are planning to move to a new location, there doesn’t seem to be enough time to do everything. But before you start panicking, take a deep breath and remember that if other people can do it, so can you. So how do you prepare for your move without losing your mind? More importantly, how do you tackle one of the most difficult tasks of all: packing? Do you want to pack your items more quickly? Here’s how you can do it.

Do away with it

If you want to be a smart and efficient packer, do away with items which are useless or no longer needed or wanted. Don’t begin packing everything you possess right away – sort through your belongings first and pack only what you need. This is all too true if you have stayed in your current residence for several years – the longer you have spent in your current place, the more you may have acquired and forgotten about. One rule to remember: if you haven’t used or needed an item for over a year, it may be a good idea to just do away with it.

Follow these three rules

There are other rules when it comes to packing quickly and efficiently. Following these rules can save you a lot of time and stress.

  1. Hardest to easiest

Start tackling the hardest or toughest areas or rooms, then move on to the rooms which are easiest. For many, this means dealing with rooms that are basically

‘storage areas’ first, such as the garage, garden shed or outbuilding, and loft. After you deal with the items in these rooms, you can move on to the living area, bedrooms, and bathroom(s). Tackling the hardest rooms first can also give you some extra relief and give you the mental energy you need to go through the rest of the house.

  1. Pack from least used to used daily

When packing from room to room, pack the items which you use the least first, as recommended by experts in removals in Gloucester. If it’s the summer season, pack your coats and jackets first, for example. Then you can move on to the items you use daily. This helps you avoid clutter whilst you’re packing.

  1. Pay attention to the big and the bulky

You should also think carefully about how big and bulky items will be packed, such as furniture, kitchen appliances, televisions, sports equipment, and so on. Once you have figured out a way to pack these items, take care of delicate or fragile items such as glassware and chinaware, antiques, jewellery, and the like. This can help you be more efficient, especially when moving day comes. Good luck!
