Given the extreme heat that we have been experiencing of late, it is all too easy to forget that colder times are going to be coming soon, but the smart person will already be thinking ahead, to make sure everything will be functioning well, when that first cold snap arrives.  Once it gets cold, it can be quite difficult to find a plumber who can visit you quickly, as lots of people trying to fire up the boiler, which has been sat dormant for some months, will be finding that it isn’t functioning properly.  Discovering that your heating system has had it and needs replacing, when it is cold outside already, is not going to leave you too popular with your shivering family.

Scheduled Maintenance

It is highly advisable to get your central heating system checked and serviced while the going is good, to ensure that all will be working well when you need it. Some of the most common problems can be easily rectified, for example your boiler might not be firing up, simply because the pilot light has gone out. You should get your ducts cleaned as they can easily become clogged with dust or even insects and your thermostat is also a common cause of problems after long periods of not being used.  Getting it all checked now, means no worries when you really need it.

System Repairs

While some problems can be easily rectified, others can require more serious work and even replacement. If you are in need of boiler repair in Newport, it is important that any work you have done, is by a Gas Safe accredited company, to ensure the work is completed in accordance with industry and Government guidelines and standards.

System Replacement

There comes a time for every heating system, when it is just either unrepairable, or really not worth fixing and needs to be replaced. Now while this is obviously a costly process, it actually isn’t all bad news, as modern heating systems are much more energy efficient than those in most of our homes, and it is an opportunity to install a system which can generate very significant ongoing savings on your heating bills. Government grants are available in some circumstances to help you pay for it. Underfloor heating is becoming very popular as it is able to bring warmth to a house far quicker than through a normal radiator system, and far more economically. An added bonus is that you will no longer need radiators on the walls, freeing up space and removing a potential hazard with sharp edges, that a child can fall onto and injure themselves.

Another option that can cut bills by up to 70% is the range of heat pumps. These work in a similar way to your fridge except in reverse. Your fridge takes warm air and removes the heat, while the heat pump for heating your house, takes ambient heat from the air or ground and uses that heat to warm your house and your water. It is able to extract heat even on very cold days, which is good news because one thing you can rely on is that winter is coming soon.
