3 Things that Impact the Overall Style of Your Kitchen

Styling your kitchen may not seem like an important thing when you consider the grander scheme of things. Good appliances are expensive, good materials are expensive, and the small details may seem insignificant when compared to the performance of things that directly affect what you do.

However, the atmosphere and environment are big contributors at the end. Before anything else, determine the kind of environment where you work best. Do you want it to be comfortable and homey? Do you work better in spaces that are designed to be efficient with minimal embellishments? What are the colours that you are drawn to? These help you identify what you need from the items on the list.

Downlights

Downlights are a common feature for setting the mood and atmosphere. They can easily adapt to different kinds of kitchens. When getting downlights, look at the colour of the light, the switches you want, and the kind of hardware options available. Try to find the ones that best suit your needs, more contemporary styles might be heavily advertised, do not be afraid to dig deeper and find styles that cater to your niche.

If you have an open concept kitchen, having downlights over your island or bar adds that extra touch during intimate get-togethers or dinner parties. If you have a traditional setup where the kitchen is a separate room, you can add downlights near the counter or around the pantry area. They can keep the place well-lit late at night without turning on all your regular lights.

Backsplashes and worktops

When you break down the focal points of the kitchen, next to the appliances, people look at the worktops and the backsplash. Besides the paint on the walls, they provide the most visual stimulation. They occupy a large space, they have patterns and a variety of colour, and texture. You may look for quartz worktops in London or a concrete slab. Remember that the material of your worktop affects the overall impact of the room. If you want an industrial or reclaimed look you can look at sealed wood and concrete. If you want something more elegant and classic a marble worktop would be nice.

As you select your worktop, remember to match your backsplash as well. Look at the size, pattern, and colour. Backsplashes are important, but they work in tandem with the worktop and cabinets. Remember to match the style, but not the intensity since they play a supporting role in the overall design.

Cabinets and other storage solutions

Your cabinets and drawers take up as much space as your worktops, so they have a strong visual impact.

Try to stay on theme with the material, hardware, and the colours. However, unlike the backsplash, you can afford to bring in a little contrast in your cabinetry. You can have reflective surfaces, elaborate carvings, or make use of hybrid setups.

Your cabinets could display the fine china you’ve been saving since your wedding day. Your worktops can add that extra charm when you have guests over. Your downlights could be the perfect lighting for candid photos. The right style elements always tie different aspects of your lifestyle together. Make your kitchen more than a cooking/baking space.
